Out & About unites entertaining textures and construction to create a smart, eye-catching scarf. It begins with two quick triangles in its center; then it is knitted out to the two ends.
Much of the scarf is knitted in cozy garter stitch. Slipped stitches are used to “draw” branching lines across the fabric. These lines are bordered with bands of a richly textured quilt stitch that is much easier to work than it looks. The different stitch sections and DK-weight yarn make the project fly by.
The finished scarf features striking geometric patterns suitable for all of the knitworthy people in your life. Both warm and stylish, it will be perfect for a fall weekend out and about in a favorite destination.

DESIGNER RECOMMENDED YARN: Yowza by Miss Babs (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 8oz/560yds): 2 Skeins. Shown in color Fiddlehead
ALTERNATE YARN: Arroyo by Malabrigo (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/330 yds): 3 Full Skeins + 1 25g Mini Skein. Arroyo is kettle-dyed in small batches and has a beautiful variegation of color which can be subtle or quite vibrant depending upon the color. Please purchase enough yarn to complete your project. We will hand select skeins to match as closely as possible. Please note that this is not a tweed yarn.
ALTERNATE YARN: Dos Tierras by Malabrigo (50% Merino Wool / 50% Baby Alpaca; 100g/210 yds): 5 skeins. Beautifully soft, very warm & available in bold or neutral colors. Enjoy the bounce from soft merino wool as well as the warmth and silkiness of baby alpaca in a decadent neck wrap.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 76" long x 13.5" wide
YARDAGE: approximately 1030 yds
SKILL LEVEL: Easy to Intermediate
NEEDLES: 2 Size US 6 / 4mm 32" circular needles, & Size US 7 / 4.5mm 32" circular needle (or one size larger), or adjust to the correct size needed to obtain gauge
OTHER TOOLS: Pins for blocking, 1 Removable stitch marker + 8 regular stitch markers (3 markers of a different color), 2 Stitch holders (large enough to hold 53 stitches) or pieces of scrap yarn, Tapestry needle
GAUGE: 17 sts x 38 rows = 4" in in garter stitch, blocked. 18 sts x 40 rows = 4” in garter stitch, unblocked. Gauge is not crucial for this project but will effect yardage and size of the finished piece.
