These sweet snowy owls are knit in the round, then felted in a washing machine or a dryer. They are weighted so that you when you push them over, they wobble right back up! Complete instructions are provided for knitting, installing the internal weight and felting. Fun for kids and adults!
The wobblers are knit in the round from the bottom up with 2 or 3 strands of yarn held simultaneously. The speckling is achieved from the yarns held at the same time which creates a marled finish. Before they are closed at the top, an internal weight is installed, and they are stuffed with fiberfill. The beak & wings are knit from purl bumps on the surface of the wobbler. The wobbler is then felted in a washing machine, with the eyes attached post-felting.
Directly from Cindy: "I’ve found that many of my customers are accomplished knitters but unsure of their felting skills. I’ve recently started a newsletter where I answer customer’s questions and provide tips on felting, as well as announce new patterns and provide substantial newsletter-only discounts." DESIGNER RECOMMENDED YARN: Wool of the Andes Worsted by Knit Picks (100% Wool; 50g/110 yds): 1 Skein will make small & large owl plus small amount for eye color. Shown in Charcoal Heather. -AND- Bare Alpaca Merino Boucle by Knit Picks (82% Alpaca / 13% Merino / 5% Nylon; 100g/328 yds): 1 Skein will make multiple owls. Shown in White. This yarn has been discontinued.
ALTERNATE YARN: Woolstok by Blue Sky Fibers (100% Peruvian Fine Highland Wool; 50g/123 yds): 1 Skein Main Color and 1 Mini Skein for Color C. This heathered wool comes from Peru and is wonderfully soft, very durable and can be knit several times without any fraying. Heathering adds extra depth and different colored "fibers" in the finished wobbler. -AND- Prairie by Blue Sky Fibers (100% Suri Alpaca; 50g/273 yds): 1 Skein Color B will make multiple owls. We suggest holding a single strand of Prairie with the main color instead of two for this pattern. Use color Cast Iron (MC), Yarrow (Color B) & Spun Gold (Color C) to match photographs.
