Inclinations Shawl by Andrea Mowry

This shawl is all about texture, squish and the movement of color. Watching the colors move and change was mesmerizing; it's impossible to set it down!  Play with different color options, and don't be afraid to make it your own!  The shawl is knit flat, sideways, with increasing along one edge to create an asymmetrical triangle.

"I share some ideas in the pattern...Knit it in 1 color or 6! Use up some stash, colorblock or stripe!  For this shawl I combined 2 three-skein fade sets of yarn that shift from color to color in each and every skein. You can find a photo of my yarn choice included here and in the pattern! I note in the pattern some other ideas for using more or less colors.  Worsted/Aran Weight

DESIGNER RECOMMENDED YARN: Dream State by Spincycle Yarns  (100% Wool; 100g/150 yds): 6 Skeins, 1 in each color.  Marled, gradient yarn.  Shown in Stay Out Of The Forest, Mississippi Marsala, Castaway, Deep Bump, The Family Jewels &  Melancholia

ALTERNATE YARN: Marla by Manos del Uruguay (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/273 yds): 6 Skeins, 1 in each color. You will have enough yarn to make 2 shawls.  This marled gradient yarn is a DK weight and will knit up lighter than a fully Worsted Weight yarn.  It is a gorgeous alternative in some of the softest Uruguayan merino wool available.  

ALTERNATE YARN: Rios by Malabrigo  (100% Superwash Merino Wool; 100g/210 yds): 6 Skeins, 1 in each color.  Rios is a plied, variegated merino wool yarn with easy care instructions.  Use highly variegated colors to best match the color shift in Spincycle Yarn.  To see a beautiful example in Rios, click here. 

ALTERNATE YARN: Merino Worsted by Malabrigo (100% Merino Wool; 100g/210 yds): 6 Skeins, 1 in each color.  Beautiful kettle-dyed colors by Malabrigo in a single-ply merino wool.  This yarn will felt if agitated while wet.  To see a beautiful example, click here.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 89" Wingspan x 30" Centerline Depth
YARDAGE: 900 yds of worsted weight in up to 6 colors with 150yds per color. These are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, and any modifications you may make.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate-I-cord, Half Fisherman's Rib Stitch, color changes

NEEDLES: Size US 5 / 3.75mm 32" circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge. Due to the expansive and squishy nature of Fishermen’s Rib, it is necessary to knit it on smaller needles then you may typically choose for this weight of yarn.
OTHER TOOLS: Removable Stitch Marker, Tapestry Needle, & Row Counter (Recommended)
GAUGE: 17 sts x 28 rows = 4" (post-blocking) Measured over Half Fisherman’s rib stitch pattern knit flat.
